Virtual Street Reality

Virtual Street Reality: "Virtual Street Reality

Julian Beever is an English artist who is famous for his art on the pavements of England, France, Germany, USA, Australia and Belgium. It's peculiarity? Beever gives his drawings an anamorphosis view, his images are drawn in such a way which gives them three dimensionality when viewing from the correct angle. It's amazing !!!"

Lami's Burning

Lami dump for the last two days has not only become an inferno but a big health threat to all citizens of Suva. A lot of people think of what is happening at the dump is just a simple fire with carbon emissions into the environment. Unfortunately it is not that simple. What is happening right now is burning of all sorts of waste which has high levels of chemicals. The burning chemicals are the biggest health threat and the dump is emitting tons of poisonous chemicals into the environment. The News people are only highlighting the 'methane' problem. Methane is not so much of a problem....what is the biggest problem in this is a group of chemical compounds called DIOXIN.

Dioxin is the name generally given to a class of super-toxic chemicals, the chlorinated dioxins and furans, formed as a by-product of burning of organic chemicals and plastics that contain chlorine. It is the nastiest, most toxic man-made organic chemical; its toxicity is second only to radioactive waste. Dioxin made headlines several years ago at places such as Love Canal, where hundreds of families needed to abandon their homes due to dioxin contamination, and in Missouri , a town had to be abandoned as a result of dioxin.

Literatures and information now available all indicated that dioxin exhibits serious health effects when it reaches as little as a few parts per trillion in human body fat. Dioxin is a powerful hormone disrupting chemical. By binding to a cell's hormone receptor, it literally modifies the functioning and genetic mechanism of the cell, causing a wide range of effects, from cancer to reduced immunity to nervous system disorders to miscarriages and birth deformity. Because it literally changes the functioning of human cells, the effects can be very obvious or very subtle. Because it changes gene functions, it can cause so-called genetic diseases to appear, and can interfere with child development. There is no "threshold" dose - the tiniest amount can cause damage, and our bodies have no defense against it.

The situation right now, from what I saw from Wairua Road few minutes ago, it is terrible .... the smoke is getting thicker and darker and I would not like any one to breath any of that stuff or get near to the dump. If there are some of our people living in Lami/Delanavesi area, my advice to them is to move out from there and relocate to a safe location where the smoke does not reach. For pregnant women they MUST move away and do not get close to the place or surrounding places. The risk is extremely high and health is the biggest threat right now for people living near the area or surrounding areas where smoke can reach.

I have advised Ministry of Health to warn the general public about health problems and take SCC and Ministry of Urban Development to task and get the fire out as soon as possible.

It is terrible and we must be all warned.

Set Priorities.
Not: I don't know where to begin, so I can't begin at all. Not: I have to do EVERYTHING! Nothing less will do. Instead: The most important step is to pick one project to focus on.

Break the Task Down into Little Pieces Not: There's so much to do, and it's so complicated. I'm overwhelmed by my English term paper. Instead: I don't have to do the whole project at once. There are separate small steps I can take one at a time to begin researching and drafting my paper. Set Up Small, Specific Goals. Not: I have to write my thesis within two months. Instead: If I write 2 pages per day, Monday-Friday, I can finish a 1st draft in 1 month. I'll have a revised final draft in 2 months. Take One Small Step at a Time. Not: It's too much. I'll never get it all done Instead: What is the one next step on my list? I'll concentrate on that step for right now Reward Yourself Right Away When You Accomplish a Small Goal. Not: I can't take any time out until I'm completely finished. Instead: I spent an hour working. Now I'll call a friend. Use a Time Schedule. Not: I must devote the whole week to this project Instead: I can use these times this week to work on my project: Monday 7-8; Tuesday 7-9; Saturday 10-12. Learn How to Tell Time. Not: Sorting through these papers and reorganizing my file cabinet will be a snap. It won't take me more than an hour, so I can do it any time. Instead: Sorting papers always takes longer than I expect, so I'll start tonight. I'll spend 1 hour filing 1 stack of papers. Optimize Your Chances for Success. Not: I'll do my writing this weekend at home. Instead: I'll write during the week in a library. (Choose whatever conditions are optimal for you to get work done.) Delegate, if Possible. Not: I am the only person in the world who can do this. Instead: I don't have to do this all by myself. I can ask someone else to do part of the job and still feel a sense of accomplishment. Just Get Started. Not: I can't write this speech until inspiration hits. Instead: I'll write what first comes to mind, then improve it later. Look at What You Have Accomplished. Not: I have hardly made a dent in all there is to do. Instead: I have reviewed my lecture notes and read 3 chapters. That won't guarentee me an 'A', but it's more than I did yesterday. Be Realistic! Not: I should be able to work full-time, take 4 classes, be president of the Esperanto Club, spend more time with friends, and play tennis 2 hours a day with no trouble at all. Instead: I have limits. I can take on fewer responsibilities and still like myself."

Getting Things Done! ::

Getting Things Done! :: "Getting Things Done!" * got everything * got everything: "11 things about websites Last month I wrote a post about the pitfalls of being a webdesigner During the writing I came with the idea about a guide for business owners. Obviously a 101 guide is not the logical thing so I settled on 11 things, uneven numbers have more cache also. My idea was for the 11 things guide to be short and to the point. I’m not trying to write a book or a paper. After brainstorming on and off and consulting a friend I came up with 11 strong and important points. Take note that these are my ideas based on experience and common knowledge. It was written for business owners or people who want to get a website done by a web designer. Get your copy of 11 things about websites A guide for business owners I just finished this version, no one has proof read it or checked the 11 points. So consider this more like a concept. If you have suggestions, comment or anything let me know. There is always room for improvement. 11 thing about websites A guide for business owners 1. A website is a composition consisting of fonts, colors, images and layout that match. This is all pulled together to enhance the most important element of a website, it’s content. 2. Good websites are hand coded by web designers. Using an editor like Frontpage or Publisher is a huge No No. See also point 10 3. It takes time to create quality website. Approach a web designer on time to allow for good planning. 4. Flash intros don’t improve your business. Most users will hit the ‘skip’ button right away. Flash websites don’t equal ‘easy to update’. Flash is useful for theme websites, a good example is website of ‘Harry Potter’ author. 5. Requesting a design change after the website is done requires time. The design has to go back to the ‘design table’ and the websites re-coded. See also point 3 6. A clean coded website and good use of keywords is more effective to search engines then an expensive search engine booster. By good use of keywords meaning max 5 words. A clean coded site and good use of content is a must for a good ranking. 7. Copying a design or content from other websites without permission is against copyright. Each company has to provide its own product/service description. 8. Without content you don’t have a website. A web designer needs content to provide a fitting design and to deliver a complete website. 9. You get what you deliver. The web designer is not responsible for errors in the content delivered by the company; this is the company’s responsibility. 10. Having a non-web designer modifying the website with editors such as Frontpage or Publisher will break the design and code. With consequence that your website will not be displayed correctly in all browsers and computer platforms. 11. Know what you want before hiring a web designer. This will save you both time and money."
